Same Year, Different Month, Same Sunny Day

Once again, as it has been for the 13th year in our lives as students comes the rush for our assignments, not forgetting how we once enjoyed, and never letting go of that feeling that we'll always want to sit back and relax, knowing that we actually can't.

Some things in Semenyih never change

This time, in the second semester of our Year 1, we face multiple hurdles of assignments in reports and a dissertation - a task unheralded by the smiles of our lecturers. Yet, despite presenting us with such tasks,I've to admit that they never once stepped back in our approach for assistance. I still appreciate the silent smile carved by their lips when they were approached.

One of the times in lab where streaking is required

Of course, when we speak of assistance from individuals whom have lifted much burden from these assignments, we mustn't forget the enthusiasm provided by our lab assistants too, especially in describing certain details which the lecturers might have overlooked.

Selective agar and antibiotics test for our unknown strain of bacteria

And lastly, not forgetting friends whom have also made it easier through a thorough series of discussion, albeit a short one, which has definitely contributed. Yet, it's not the assistance which is carved into memory, but more of the company, whether in our out of class and labs; moments of silent become scant when the collection is complete and never was another day dreaded in solemn.

However, I just couldn't help the feeling that sometimes even springs face fatigue. This too, is often unheralded.

Everyone has it?

Hi... i am back. I am not a dedicated blogger, i must admit. Yet it was inevitable that postponing blogging time to study is indeed a wise choice.. i hope. The cbox is flooding with messages screaming (hyperbole) "upload". So today, instead of focusing on asgar's class, i was thinking of a topic to blog. I am not someone who would indulge in politics or adults stuff. Instead, i would like to bring up this important matter. Chain mails.

I just got this email from a friend of mine.

Hi, my name is Chris Yeoh. I am 19 years old, and I have testicle cancer .. I also have a large penile fracture, from repeated beatings.Doctors say I will die soon if this isn't fixed, and my family can't pay the bills.

The Make A Wish Foundation, has agreed to donate 50 cents for every time this
message is sent on.

For those of you who send this along, I thank you so much, but for those who
don't send it, what goes around comes around. Have a Heart, please send this.

Please, if you are a kind person, send this on. PLEASE HIT FORWARD
BUTTON NOT REPLY BUTTON.
YOUR'S FAITHFULLY,
Chris Yeoh

The first time i received this email, i was indeed shocked as i would not imagine a life without the 2 newton pendulums. Those my friends are the source of life to future generations. However, having a cancer THERE, would mean hours of chemo and cat scans at that particular area.. hoow freaky is that.

initially i was sympathetic toward that young fella. The photo from the email portray a young boy no older than 14. Wow, he must have ate some serious chemical X or something.

2 DAYS later, another email came... same story... different sob face.... this time it was a more older looking person... a person who looked mature to start producing some juice == not some puny guy.... wow.... i was thinking ..... this disease really kick ass.... 2 days and 2 cases.... it's faster than sex itself....

AND now this..... wtf.... everyone has it????? what.... it spreads through anal???? wtf... would anyone relly post emails of themselves getting this disease or that disease just for money???

There are other versions of chain mail such as the sick baby chain mail where they show sickly children or newborns connected to IV drips... come one people.... there are better ways to earn money rather than sending sob stories....

I don't remember where'd they go!

Missing us, Pangeelapongers? :D

Yeah we as the bloggers and the readers miss reading each other's blog post.. we've been busy with exams! Right after the holiday we had our first semester exams. We've been studying day 'n' nite. and i really meant it when i say night! There are some nights when we stay awake the whole night, go for mamak at 3am for a cup of teh tarik and study again! can you imagine how hardcore we studied?

Anyway, when we were studying, we faced a lot of trouble understanding every freaking notes. In APMS, my course, we had to sit for 5 papers. 2 on business and 3 more on Psychology. Psychology, Interesting, Very very interesting but it is obviously not an easy subject to score. Understanding the notes wasnt that easy, especially cognitive psychology. And yeah! 50% of the things we heard in class went to our echoic store and decayed so we had to restudy everything. and after looking through the notes, the wordings went into our iconic store, and decayed too! So practically nothing much went into the short term memory,
and of course long term memory too. I dont get it! Why did most psychologist comic say that elephants have got good memory. Wonder whether is it true. Even in "The Jungle Book" (1967), the elephants that Mowgli(the little boy from the cartoon, there's only one boy in the entire movie) went marching with, mentioned that an elephant never forgets! but i wonder why?!!

Finally I get why they say an elephant never forget! Elephants follow the same paths and even hand down genetic memories of directions and places grounds across generations. Cool right? better in direction than some of us that live and grew in KL. lol. Wonder how they've got good memory? They read! books on "Improve your memory for dummies"

Simple, as for human, just read la! read, read and read till everything you read goes into your short term memory! Easier said than done right? Even after reading it once or twice, you can still forget every single thing. Like you totally dont remember every freakin thing you read. Even your mama and papa will be pissed cuz they see you studying day and night and you tell them you dont remember what you studied...
So what can an elephant do? Elephant naturally have good memories. And who cares if they've got bad memories, all they need to remember is the same route back and forth. But for us human?! We can only remember 7 things +/- 2! so 9 things the most! what can you do? chunk little things into one? That's can't probably be in the short term memory. How to get it into the long term memory?

One good way is to use mnemonics. Encoding information based on large existing knowledge base. It takes up a lot of time.
Of course there are other ways of remembering but it can never last. Auditory, Visual and Semantic code can help us to code information in the short term memory but not long term.

So how to get our info into the long term memory? we gotta rehearse, and code them with adequate retrieval cues. Whatever way that helps you to remember. If you think looking at yourself in the mirror can make you remember, stick the yellow sticky notes on your mirror. If that doesn't work, stick it on yourself. It helps :D

Again, it's easier said than done. It helps if you put in more effort and time!

Since it's the beginning of second sem, dont slack and start studying from the first day of class! :)
