Wedding customs and traditions
This morning I read newspaper and I came across this interesting article about some "weird" wedding customs and traditions around the world. So I thought of sharing them here. :)
Ancient Bulgaria
Nowadays when we talk about wedding, all the couples will find ways to make themselves look more "presentable"; dress nicely, properly groomed and so on. Even if they are born imperfect, they'll put on thick make ups to cover up the defects. However, this does not happen to the Ancient Bulgarian, especially in this area called Kyustendil. Not only they don't bother dressing up nicely, the bride has to make herself look as ugly as and as horrible as possible!
For example, the bride will paint her face black, wear a pair of elven ears, put on unfitted clothes and so on. Besides, she also has to act retarded during the wedding dinner. Examples of retarded actions such as, throwing dung at the guests, dance with animal's bone and etc.
With all these, only the wedding ceremony considered complete. According to their belief, dressing up nicely during wedding will bring jealousy in other people. And Jealousy is like a devil, which will bring bad luck to the couple.
Ancient England
Until 1753, before they amended the wedding's law, there were no diamond rings, no gowns, no wedding certificate and no wedding dinner. There was only a simple wedding ceremony where the couple has to sweep and clean the house under the supervision of local official. It was a way to teach the newly-wed how to do house chores.
Ancient Sparta
On the wedding day, the bride had to dress up like a man! She had to put on mustache, wear man's clothings and shoes. Then she will wait alone in a dark room. At night the groom will appear and "sweep" her away. Only then, she will remove her mustache, man's clothings and dress up as a girl. The reason they practiced this was because, there was one period when homosexuality was a general trend for the Spartans. Therefore, heterosexual partners did not dare to announce their loves and that was why the bride had to dress up like a man....
Ancient France
When talk about the France, everyone will probably think that they sure gonna be damn romantic, but they were actually not that romantic. Think about the wedding ceremony nowadays, for the chinese, we will normally have buffet at the groom's house the night before wedding, then we will have wedding dinner the next day. All these are served with delicious foods.
However, for the ancient France, especially in this area called La Soupe, the bride and the groom have to eat rubbish, as in real rubbish. On the wedding day, they have to sweep their room and the rubbish collected will be made into food. (I still cannot believe that) The most gross thing was, according to the legend, they have to ingest dirty water from the toilet bowl. =.= However, they said the guests were served with proper meal.
How you want your wedding to be?

A relationship - full of different emotions
It is worth notice that for
American marriages began in 1980, about 10 per cent ended up divorce;
For couples married in 1920, the rate was about 18 per cent followed by;
1950 = 30%
1970 = 50%
And for newly-wed in year 1990, the divorce rate was estimated to be 67%.
If the statistic is true, then for every 10 married couples, 6 will end up splitting up and say bye bye…..
Flash back during my grandpa times, divorce was practically not in the context even in the most miserable match of couples. It could be due to wives’ economic dependence on their husbands. But if that’s no longer the issue, emotional forces between couples may be crucial for determining the survival of a marriage.
The differences between how men and women handle their emotions, aside from the biological factors, could be arisen from the differences in emotional worlds boys and girls are exposed to while growing up. Boys are girls are somehow taught very differently in terms of how to handle emotions. In general, parents, especially mothers, when talk to their daughters, they tend to talk more detail the emotional state itself and more about feelings. On the other hand, when they talk to the sons, probably parents may go more detail about causes and consequences of emotions. As a consequence, girls may be more articulate in expressing their feelings in words rather than emotional reactions such as physical fights. Boys on the contrary more likely to express anger “physically” rather than “verbally”.
Girls tend to play together in a smaller group with the emphasis of together-ness and cooperation. While boys normally play in a larger group and the games involved are normally more competitive; dead or alive, they wanna know who is the winner. If somebody’s got hurt during the game, girls will gather around to help the girl who is crying. But sadly, when a guy got hurt, he is expected to stand up and continue the game or may be left out by the gang and regarded as the sissy in the group. As girls and guys grow up in such circumstances, girls become more sensitive in reading emotional signals at both verbal and non-verbal levels. They are also better in expressing and communicating their feelings compared to the guys. Guys on the other hand master the ability to mask their emotions when it comes to pride, fear or hurt. Or expressing their emotions in a more destructive manner.
Studies say that, for the wives, intimacy means talking things over, especially talking about the relationship itself. The men sometimes don’t understand what the wives want from them. They say, ‘I want to do things with her, and all she wants to do is talk.’ Of course not all men are like that, sometimes husbands would also want to settle problems in the relationship, such as problems related to communication. But somehow, probably because men grow up from a childhood where communication and expression of feelings are less emphasized, when attempt to express their complaint/dissatisfaction, often expressing it as anger, in a wrong way, wrong tone with a poor choice of word. Anyway, at times, wives may express their complaints in a wrong way as well.
[Stories attained from Goleman, 1996.]
a)
Fred: Did you pick up my dry cleaning?
Ingrid: (In a mocking tone) “Pick up your dry cleaning? Pick up your own damn dry cleaning. What am I, your maid?
Fred: Hardly. If you were a maid, at least you’d know how to clean.
b)
Pamela and her daughter went shoe shopping while her husband, Tom, went to a bookstore. They agreed to meet in front of the post office in an hour, and then go to a matinee. Pamela was prompt, but there was no sign of Tom. “Where is he? The movie starts in ten minutes,” Pamela complained to her daughter. “If there’s a way for your father to screw something up, he will.”
When Tom showed up ten minutes later, happy about having run into a friend and apologizing for being late, Pamela lashed out with sarcasm: “That’s okay – it gave us a chance to discuss your amazing ability to screw up every single plan we make. You’re so thoughtless and self-centered!”
The return of Tom’s apology, was a statement from the wife saying “thoughtless and self-centered”…
According to the author, Pamela’s way of expressing her emotion is a character assassination, a critique of the person, not the deed, which is more than just a complaint.
There is a huge difference between complaints and personal criticism. In a complaint, a wife will state what exactly makes her feel sad, and criticizes reasonably on her husband’s action, not her husband, by saying how it made her feel (referring back to the first story, the wife should say):
“When you forgot to pick up my clothes at the cleaner’s it made me feel like you don’t care about me.”
This is an expression of basic emotional intelligence which is positive, not aggressive or passive.
But in a personal criticism she might say:
“You’re always so selfish and uncaring. It just proves I can’t trust you to do anything right.”
This kind of criticism leaves the person on the receiving end feeling ashamed, disliked, blamed, and defective – all of which are more likely to lead to a defensive response than to steps to improve things (Goleman, 1996).
In a relationship, there’re many factors which to lead a divorce/break up in couples, one of it could be the contributory of emotional forces. A good emotional management along side with good communication with the partner may be crucial to hold a relationship together. Understanding the nature of gender differences in terms of their emotions could also lead to a better understanding between couples and a happier future, hopefully….
Indulge in reminiscence
This morning, I woke up and decided to look back at my old stuffs that I kept in boxes. Its placed in the top layer of my wardrobe. That's why I've almost forgotten about them. Out of sight, out of mind. There was a lot of reminiscing going over while looking at my stuffs and it brought back a few memories of my own. I remembered me.
I can say that the stef now is not quite like the old stef. I dont know why. I guess its the process of growing up. I used to like colourful stuffs but now I'm like a mono colour person. I used to make funny things that I like during my free time but now I'll sleep or just laze around or hang out with frens whenever I'm free. I used to have a proper schedule.. but now? Its all in a mess. I rush assignments everyday, I am always catching up with time. I lost my hobbies. Last time I used to play the piano and guzheng almost everyday. Now? Once every 6months. Guzheng? Worse.. once a year.
Its probably the environment and the busy world that made me like that. I believed many of u are the same. Its not the same anymore, its not easy to say no anymore. But instead, we will find ourselves saying yes to many other things. Even though its not something we truly want.
But whatever it is, its a good sunday morning. I felt good looking back at my old stuffs, bringing back my childhood memories. And find myself back once again. It feels good to get back to where you were, who you were. I know, I'll always have a base in me.
Ps: I'm not being emo. :)

Perky?
Tiscra Mouse
Today, I woke up early, so decided to go campus earlier, for once...
Class at tiscra 2 today, and obviously the first thing to do when come to tiscra, besides looking for a strategic and a more "clean-looking" seat, is to login to facebook...
Suddenly..........
Yucks..... why is the mouse oily? why are there stains on the mouse? What are those stains???? Who left those stains on the mouse??? OMG tiscra is always so dirtyyyy. (Stef)
Then, we started guessing what could those stains probably be....
***
hmm... it might be someone who eats while using the computer, and use the mouse instantly after licking their fingers.
Or...
it could be someone who has problem with their sweat glands and sweat bloody a lot or it's just someone who is bloody F*t who has a super oily palm.
***
Before we could have a proven conclusion, suddenly the person next to Stef.....
HAAAAA CHIUUUUUUU..... sniff sniff sniff, rub his nose [sneeze]
Finally we know what are the stains on the mouse....
Worse still, we observed that guy for a few minutes,
after he sneezed, he started biting his finger and we could hear crunching sound...
Stef felt SOOO disgusted, she instantly logged off and went to sanitize her hands....
**THE END**
Lastly, if you're a super hygiene freak, please bring gloves to tiscra next time. :)
and also if you're a super dirty freak, please wear gloves too.
Thank you very much for your cooperation.

2012.. is it comingg??
Are human species gonna disappear just like the dinasours?
Are the nostradamus predictions accurate?
Is the movie 2012 a warning to all of us?
***
All these while, Malaysia has always been safe, no natural disaster like earthquakes, tornado etc. But, ever since the tsunami in year 2004, everything has changed. Gradually...and thats why ppl dont realise it.
Recently, the myth of 2012 becomes more apparent. More and more places/countries which used to be known as natural disaster free zone are no longer safe. Floods, tsunami, earthquakes etc are happening in places that never once happened. Just look at our country and neighbouring countries, the 2004 tsunami; the frequency to which tsunami and earthquake attack Indonesia; the flood in Thailand..........Dont you get the hint??
It is also frightening to know that most of the earthquakes that occur recently are not minor ones. Leading us back to the deadliest tsunami in Dec 26 2004, it is actually the consequence of
See the serious-ness??
Another not-so-long ago earthquake in Haiti, more than 200,000 people have died, and approximately a million were left homeless.
We read about these, we know and we pity these victims. But its always, arrrhh ya...there's earthquake in that country... after awhile, we dont remember it anymore. Not until another disaster happen again. Why like that? Thats because we never encounter one before. Instead of feeling grateful, we take this for granted.
Well, its time for us to be concerned. Malaysia is not as safe anymore.
15November2010 -> Floods in Klang Valley resulting in massive jam and obstructing the Putraline operation.
And this--- > Tornado spotted in Melacca (2008)
The damage..
Not only in melacca, recently, there's also tornado in Penang and Perlis:(
The world has changed.

A day out to KL
Today is the day! Special thanks to our School Career Advisor, Ms. Christina V. Supramaniam who informed us about the Biocareer Fair today at KLCC, which sort of brought US together again since the very very lassssst outing (don't remember when was the last time we went out).
Me and Stef took train, in the train Stef received Ivan's message saying he might come bit late :( The first sign of ffking, but we believed that Ivan surely has his reason :)
Shortly after we reached KLCC, Htennek, Carmen and Shin arrived too. Htennek proudly said that he's got an illegal parking which is not obstructing the traffic. hmm, Me and Stef felt jealous and never knew such illegal parking spot exists in somewhere as congested as Kuala Lumpur.
hmm, apparently, the one who we thought would definitely FFK arrived first before all of us, congratulation WEIKEAT. :))) and he already registered himself and were already in the hall when we all arrived. EELEEN didn't come ... :(
Honestly, the exhibition was kinda disappointing and can see that biotech is still quite under-developed in Malaysia... not many booths there and not really very interesting nor informative.
When we all just started collecting brochures (cause we don't wanna leave with empty hands), Wei Keat already start complaining and wanted to go for lunch because before we really arrive at the hall, he has already seen everything there at least 3 times... >.< Lunch at Madam Kwan, there was where Carmen confessed that she wanted a transparent gown for her wedding with Bryan. hahaha
(Htennek's dessert: A for Aurea)
After settling the bill, we walked to Htennek's car and proceeded to the next destination, Bukit Bintang. His car was miles away, when we reached to the secluded area where he claimed as free, safe and illegal parking, we finally understand that actually everything has a price, there was nothing as free parking in KL, and his price was RM 100. hahahaha
UNIQLO, after one week opening, still got many people come for it, though many just come because they have the "kia su" attitude, "Since everyone goes, I must go too!". From our observation, many just went in and out without buying anything. But our Htennek has got some harvest! hahaha
SNOWFLAKES, Pavillion was sort of our ultimate destination of the day, because Carmen has never been to Pavillion before. :) A lot of people there, we finally got a place and we got some nice camwhore pictures after settling down! but for some weird reason, we ordered one extra Japan Combo. Since Ivan said he can join us for dinner, we decided to tapao for Ivan, because Htennek claimed that Snowflake ice will not melt. Though Shin was still in doubted with Htennek's words but the rest chose to believe Htennek cause the way he said it, or in fact everything he said today sounded extra convincing. Weird, that didn't always happen...
Wei Keat has to go back early because his dad's birthday today. Happy Birthday Uncle. Meaning Shin and Carmen have to go back too because they need Wei Keat's transport :) We walked them to the Monorail station, on the way, we saw this static "YES" robot statue standing by the walkway. Htennek eagerly wanted to take picture with the robot, Stef too.
Asked Stef when standing beside the robot, "hmm, is this real human in robot mascot or just a statue?"
Before she could have a second thought, the robot moved and scared her like the cockroach did. Stef's involuntary reaction was priceless! She immediately jumped and screamed as though she was being molested... Later we could see tears in her eyes.. hahaha..
Apparently, there were more than one "Yes" robot, Stef didn't want to take photo with the one which frightened her and she went to the next robot and we took a picture. :)
After seeing them off, we went to have a walk in Sungei Wang while waiting for Ivan to have dinner at the Lot 10 "Food Heritage". I heard there are quite lot nice foods because there are famous chefs from all over the place, but mainly chinese cuisine.
(We walked to T-bowl in Sungei Wang to have a look)
(The place where we were supposed to have dinner)
Suddenly, Htennek received a call from his dad, ops he has to go home early... so our dinner cancelled :( but nvm next time we should all go together again :)
Lastly, SNOWFLAKES DOES MELT!! We were fooled... grrrhh Htennekkkk...
After a looong day, time to get back to assignmentssss.. !

The culprit.
This ugly, distorded and disgusting pic is showing a dirty flithy insect. An insect that will give 2 pangeelapongers a heart attack if they EVER encounter a situation like what I did just now.
So, what happened was.. a cockroach just crawled to my foot. For nothing. Shit man! I was sitting peacefully on the floor with my laptop on the table. Out of a sudden I just felt something poking me and I involuntarily used my right hand to sweep it off. I thought it might be some hair or whatsoever la..
Then, the poking came back. This time, I involuntarily looked down. And, I saw this brown flat creature running away. Surprisingly, I did not scream but just stared at my foot and hand. After bout like 5 seconds, I finally realised that A COCKROACH JUST USED ITS ANTENNAS TO POKE ME AND RUN AWAY AFTER I LOOKED AT IT.
What.. playing hide and seek meh?? Lame piece of shit. Dare to poke but don't dare to admit and run away instead. One more thing, I'm a human and I smell like a human. Can't you sense it with your ultimately long antennas? And as a cockroach don't you think you should avoid me for I might just smack you and you'd be gone forever? Haih.. Peter never said cockroaches will poke.
Guess what I did after that.. I washed my hands and feet with dynamo. HAHA
And I drew the picture because the real picture of a cockroach is way too disgusting that it might just shoo ppl off from this blog.
I promised to blog this week and I did! But I was supposed to blog about something interesting bout oreo and not this disgusting creature. Guess its my karma for not blogging. (If this incident didnt happened, I wouldn't have blogged too. Lol)
Since I started off with a disgusting drawing, I shall end with a nice picture:)
Tadaa! Mini oreo:) hope you all liked it.
Till then:)

Busy, Friends
I found this old picture which I edited,
Anyway the latest eruption, on the 5th if not mistaken, has killed around 64 people; then we have serious floods in Thailand, Perlis and Kedah... are these the indications of end of the world?
Looking at the picture, I start to feel like life in Uni is not as happening as it used to be...
perhaps we all are getting busier with studies and assignments so we become more and more "stingy" to allocate time for friends to carry out some fun activities.
Though it may not be true for other courses but it's quite apparent in our Year bioscience...
It could be due to the size of the class, or the combination of people from everywhere which don't really match each other?
Or it's just that the effort is not there?
I remember last time in high school, teachers always complain that our year; the 1990 born are very passive and we are more selfish and care only for ourselves... although not SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN yet, I can see some true in the statement. :(
At times, we're busy chasing success in our life to an extent where we might neglect the merit of family and friends.... sometimes it's ok to slow down the pace in life and look at the sceneries around, see is there anything worth you stopping to have a look or care.
Billows of Affection
But as the moments pass by, sweet becomes bitter; light becomes dark, as I now see your full fury unleashed. It has affected everyone; affected me it has, too. I could only cower, hoping that this stage is momentary. And as hoped, it was.
I watch the steam dissipate into what lured me to you: into a stage which made me love you. At the end, I reached out to you and then embraced you, wishing that this stage will last forever.
As a student, many would wish so: but your cycle must go on and that I accept. And so, I closed my eyes, last watching you smile with much cool.
And then I wake up again, once again, to a beautiful you.
Semenyih mornings are beautiful.
* a more meaningful post from me next time, hopefully (: *
